Rogene was born on February, 22, 1933 on the farm in rural Mills, County, IA, the daughter of Carl and Vera (Schoening) Schroeder.
Rogene attended country school north of Mineola, IA, through the 3rd grade and completed her schooling at the Macedonia Consolidated School where she graduated as Valedictorian with the class of 1951. Following graduation, she was employed at John Deere Parts in Omaha. Later she worked as a substitute clerk at the Mineola Post Office, which led to a full time position in Council Bluffs, IA, where most of the years she worked as a secretary until her retirement in 1990.
Rogene was married to George Watson. The couple had two children, Clair and Julia. They later divorced. In 1977, Rogene married James Harvey Moon.
Rogene was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola where she was baptized on April 30, 1933 and confirmed on November 3, 1946; both were performed by Pastor O.C. Burman. Other enjoyments included crocheting, embroidering, sewing, baking, reading and she loved to share many of the gifts of her many talents with relatives, friends, hospice organizations and church functions. Rogene loved to go fishing and she and Jim spent many hours at nearby lakes and made several fishing trips to Minnesota. She was given the “Iowa Big Fish” award for a large mouth bass she caught which was later mounted as a reminder to Jim that she was the one who had caught it.
After living in Mineola for 37 years, they moved to Glenwood in 1999. Jim was the love of her life, and they had 34 wonderful years together.
