Ruth Scott

Malverna Ruth Scott, the only child of Angeline Margaret (Owens) and Bo Jacob Lookabill, was born on January 22, 1920 on her parent's farm near Malvern, Iowa. Ruth was baptized on June 25, 1922 at the Malvern Methodist Episcopal Church and later became a member of the church. She attended country school at Centerline and graduated from Malvern High School in 1938. Following school, Ruth worked at the Gambles store and the Farm Bureau Office in Malvern.

Ruth and Carl Woodrow Scott were married on March 2, 1952 at the Malvern United Methodist Church. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter, Lavonne Ruth. The family lived on farms north of Malvern and near Hastings, Iowa. Ruth was active in the Hastings Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. In 1967, the family moved to a farm near Red Oak, Iowa. On May 12, 1968, Ruth became an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women in Red Oak.

Ruth's greatest joy was being a wife and mother and spending time with her family and friends. She loved doing church work, gardening, tending to her flowers, embroidering, and caring for the cats. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and visiting Canada and Cuba. As a young woman, Ruth was involved in 4-H and was a 4-H Leader for many years.

Ruth and Carl moved from the farm approximately eight years ago to live in Red Oak. Ruth entered the Red Oak Rehab & Care Center in October of 2008. Surrounded by her family and friends, Ruth went to be with the Lord on February 6, 2009, at the age of 89 years and 15 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Thelma Hatfield and husband Art; and brother-in-law, Joseph Parker.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 56 years, Carl Scott of Red Oak; daughter, Lavonne Doran and husband David of Elbert, CO; sister-in-law, Irene Parker of Red Oak; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Scott and wife Iva of Malvern, IA; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Ruth's ready smile and easy laugh will be missed by all.
