Shirley Joan Sunderman

Shirley Sunderman, 75, passed away on October 22, 2014 at the Hospice with Heart Hospice House in Glenwood. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Westside Church, 155th & West Dodge Road in Omaha, Nebraska. Loess Hills Funeral Home of Malvern assisted the family with arrangements.

Family requests memorials are to be made to Hospice with Heart in Glenwood, Iowa.

Shirley Joan Sunderman, one of seven children of Ella (Schmidt) and Robert George Richards, was born on December 27, 1938 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota.

She graduated from high school in Newell, South Dakota in 1957.

Shirley moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1958 and started her career in the food and beverage industry.

In the middle 1960's & early 1970's ~ She lived in Sioux City, Iowa and Norfolk, Nebraska.

She returned to Omaha in the late 1970's. Continuing her career in the food and beverage industry.

In the early 90's, Shirley operated the restaurant and gas station in Henderson,Iowa aptly named "Shirley's Shed".

She then moved to Hastings, Iowa and opened Shirley's Shed there.

Due to heath issues, she retired in 1995. Shirley lived in Malvern, Iowa until September 2014, when she moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Shirley passed away on October 22, 2014 at Hospice with Heart in Glenwood, Iowa, from complications of cancer at the age of 75 years, 9 months, and 25 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, David (Butch) Richards and Robert "Buddy" Richards; and sister Dorothy Blumer.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Judy Salmon and Son-in-Law Brian N. Salmon of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren, Joshua, Emily (Hodge) her husband Mark, Jacob, Josiah & wife Tori, Jordan, and Hannah Hughes; four great grandchildren, Ashlynn, Kylee, Aria, and Norra, sisters, Judy Webster and husband Larry of Omaha, Beverly Langebeer of Ericson, NE, and Betty Horgdal of Council Bluffs; and many other loved ones and friends.
