Susan Mass, 78, of Silver City, IA, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood, IA with Pastor Ken Demlow officiating.
Burial will be in the Silver City Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home, with family greeting friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood is caring for Susan and her family.

OBITUARY

Susan was born on December 29, 1946 in Council Bluffs, one of four daughters of Arthur and Virginia (Johnson) Dunlavy. She graduated from high school and obtained her associates degree in nursing. Susan was a nurse in the surgical tech department at Jennie Edmundson Hospital for 46 years.
Susan and Byron Claude Mass were united in marriage on June 20, 1981 in Council Bluffs. They made their home on a farm near Silver City. The couple was blessed with a son, Andrew.
Susan was a 40-year member of the Silver City Community Church and a member of the Silver City American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and word games, and was an avid reader.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Virginia; and brother-in-law Kenneth Jessen.
Susan is survived by her husband of 44 years, Byron Mass of Silver City; son Andrew Mass of St. Louis, MO; sisters, Kathleen Jessen of Council Bluffs, Roberta Engle and husband Daniel of Council Bluffs, and Deborah Johnston of Omaha, NE; other relatives and many special friends.
