Tanner Michael Foss, one of four children of Michael Scott Foss and Leslie Kay Stephens, was born on July 14, 1996 in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended Heartland Christian School in Council Bluffs, Iowa and East Mills School in Malvern, Iowa, graduating from the East Mills High School in 2015.

Tanner was a member of the Malvern United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing sports; especially football and baseball, while in school. He loved animals and there was never a shortage of rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, fish, and most recently, the family's beloved dog Sawyer, who he spent countless hours playing with. Tanner not only loved animals but he loved people. When he was little, he always tried to give people something when they visited the house; from a hand towel to a toy (usually one of his brothers), but most often a can of food from the pantry. His caring, loving nature transcended over the years as he expressed a desire to grow out his hair so that he could donate to locks of love or a similar program, to help cancer patients. Most recently, his ultimate gift, donating his tissue to save the lives of others, was a decision he had made at the age of 16 and one he took very seriously. Tanner's other passion was his music and he was excited that people were starting to take a real interest in his craft. He loved his siblings fiercely and his ornery nature and big bear hugs will be greatly missed. Tanner was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and good friend to all who knew and loved him.

Tanner passed away at the Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, at the age of 19 years, 7 months, and 23 days and was preceded in death by his uncle, Kenneth Foss, in infancy; and grand uncle, David Stephens.

Tanner is survived by his mom Leslie Stephens of Malvern and dad Michael Foss of Oswego, IL; twin brothers, Drake Thomas Foss of Malvern and Chandler Dale Foss of Oswego; sister Ellie Sophia Foss of Malvern; grandparents, Dale and Cathy Stephens of Malvern, and Tom and Jennye Foss of Omaha; aunts and uncles, Janella and Mike May of Silver City, IA, and Kelly and Nick Foral of Omaha; grand uncle Larry Stephens of Omaha; many cousins and extended relatives; and friends.
