Virginia Saar Peterson Knudsen

Virginia Saar (Trede) Peterson Knudsen, age 94 of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away on July 3, 2017, at the Midlands Living Center surrounded by her loving family.

Virginia was born September 26, 1922, to the late Elmer and Gertrude (Saar) Trede in Council Bluffs, IA. She graduated from Treynor High School in 1940. She married Maynard Peterson in 1942 in San Antonio, TX, where he was stationed. To their union were born a son Gary and a daughter Carol. They had been married 43 years when he passed away in 1986.

Virginia loved her family and being a homemaker. She was an active member of the Community of Christ Church. She had a very special gift of letter writing and enjoyed sharing many of her memories in writing with her family. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidery and cross stitch. She made many throws, afghans, pillow cases, dish towels and Christmas ornaments for the family to enjoy.

In 1991 she married Delno Knudsen. They enjoyed traveling and were married 15 years at the time of his death in 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Maynard Peterson and Delno Knudsen, brother Roger Trede, daughter Vicki Knudsen, great granddaughters, Emily Peterson and Anna McKevitt.

Survivors include daughter Carol (Dennis) Johnston of Omaha, NE, sons, Gary (Louise) Peterson of Carson, IA and Gary (Kathy) Knudsen of Russellville, AR, sister Marian Mongar of Riverside, CA, grandchildren, Brent (Anne) Peterson, Dana (Linda) Peterson, Keri (Kip) Mathew, Monica (Brian) McKevitt, Angela (Josh) McKim, Kellie (Justin) Dorsey, Cedric (Laurie) Knudsen, Elijah (Megan) Knudsen, Jamie (David) Morford; great grandchildren, Elise and Julia Peterson, Dakota and Riley Mathew, Joel Peterson, Ellie and Maddie McKevitt, Grace, Claire and Jonah McKim, Abigal and Genevieve Dorsey, Alex (Beth) Welsh, and Mariah Welsh; great-great grandchildren, Carlee and Olivia Welsh; sister-in-law Gloria Peterson, brother-in-law Jack Fox, nieces and nephews.
