Walter Wilbert Schoening

Walter Schoening, 87, passed away at the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood, Iowa on November 12, 2015. Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood with Pastor Seth Kaiser officiating. Inurnment will be in the Mineola Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Memorials are directed to the family.

Walter Wilbert Schoening, one of three sons of Arthur Ferdinand and Grace Ella (Green) Schoening, was born at home on November 20, 1927 in Oak Township, near Mineola, Iowa. He attended Letal Country School, completing the 8th grade. Following school he helped on the family farm. Walt was a self-employed carpenter contractor until 1979, when he went to work for the Mills County Secondary Roads until his retirement.

Walt was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Glenwood and a past member of the Glenwood Optimist Club. He enjoyed dancing, woodworking, and playing cards, especially pitch.

Walt passed away at the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood on November 12, 2015, at the age of 87 years, 11 months, and 23 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Duane Schoening.

Walt is survived by his children, Paul Schoening of Glenwood, Peggy Cass and husband Tony of Creston, IA, and Phil Schoening and wife Pamela of Red Oak, IA; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother, Gordon Schoening and wife Pat of Glenwood; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and a host of friends.
