Warren Theodore Tibbles

–

Glenwood, Iowa

In lieu of flowers, memorials are directed to the family.

Warren Theodore Tibbles, one of four children of Elma Nevada (Carley) and Earnest Alden Tibbles, was born on November 13, 1920 on a farm northwest of Carson, Iowa, referred to as the Snapp farm. He grew up in the Carson and Macedonia, Iowa area and graduated from Macedonia Consolidated School in 1937. Warren began farming the home place west of Macedonia.
Warren and Berdine Genevieve Mauer, daughter of Wesley and Minnie (Otto) Mauer, were married on October 14, 1941 in Maryville, Missouri. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Ernest Le Roy, Lois Ann, James Warren, and Janet Jean, who died at 5 months of measles from exposure by her older siblings.
In 1946, they purchased the Melvin Viner farm southwest of Macedonia where Warren made many improvements to the farm over the years; a garage, corn crib, granaries, hog house, machine shed, and other small buildings. In 1969, the farm was sold and they moved to the house in Carson built for his mother. He worked for farm machinery dealerships, a trucking company, and did carpentry until his retirement.
Warren was a member of the Macedonia Methodist Church, later transferring to the Carson United Methodist Church. When the first Macedonia Fire Station was built, Warren was there to help with the cement. Warren served many years as township trustee, was a 50+ member of the Macedonia Cemetery Association Board, served three 3-year terms on the Macedonia School Board, and was a member of the Ruby Lodge 415 in Macedonia, serving as Master in 1961 and 1970. Many of his family members were Masons and Grandpa Carley had served as Worshipful Master of the Ruby Lodge. Ruby Lodge merged with the Coral Lodge 430 in 1971, Warren served several years as secretary, received his 50-year certificate and pin in 1995, was presented the Coral Lodge gavel for his many years of service in 1998, and became Master in 2002. He joined the Scottish Rite and the Tangier Shrine in Omaha, Nebraska and was a member of the Botna Valley Shrine Club in Pottawattamie County. Warren was a member of the Council Bluffs Flotilla of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Council Bluffs Boat Club and served as Vice Commander for many years, serving on many patrol missions for the US Ski Tournaments on Carter Lake and the Missouri River.
Warren loved playing Santa Claus for his grandkids and enjoyed collecting coins and Avon bottles, making beaded lights, squirrel feeders, and candle making. He and Berdine enjoyed taking vacations and traveling in their motor home. Among his favorites were Niagara Falls, and visiting New York and Washington, DC.
Warren and Berdine celebrated many wedding anniversaries with family, friends and neighbors. In 2003, they celebrated their 62nd with ice cream and cake with family, nurses and doctors at the Clarkson Hospital following Berdine's knee and hip surgery. Due to declining health, Warren and Berdine moved the Ville De Sante Senior Home in Omaha, Nebraska in 2004. They attended many Omaha events and spent many Sundays at their favorite restaurant, Hong Hing, where they enjoyed eating Chinese food. On their 65th anniversary, they renewed their wedding vows, celebrating with family, old Carson friends and new friends at the Ville. They reached a milestone when they celebrated their 71th anniversary at the Ville in October 2012.
Warren developed Macular Degeneration Eye disease in 2002 and could no longer drive, but continued to ride his bike for awhile, do household chores and stay active with his Masonic Lodge. He later relied on using a visual-aid magnifying computer, continued to keep busy, enjoyed making items for family and friends; painted rocks gold, calling it Ville De Sante "loot" for Ville neighbors to place by their doors, listening to audio tapes, and spending time with his family.
Warren passed away on March 3, 2013 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter Janet; brothers, Alva and Ivan; and sister, Clara.
Warren is survived by his beloved wife Berdine Tibbles of Omaha; children, Ernest Tibbles, and Lois Starr, both of Omaha, and James Tibbles of Council Bluffs, IA; 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
