Wilma M. Johnson

Wilma M. Johnson, 96, of Glenwood, IA, passed away at the Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs on December 7, 2015. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home with Reverend Dean McPherson officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Wilma M. Johnson, one of seven children of William S. and Mabel Melissa (Potts) Bradley, was born on August 25, 1919 on a farm near Strahan, Iowa. She graduated from high school when she was 15 years old and started teaching when she was 17 years old. Her lifelong passion was education; as a country school teacher, in rearing six boys, as a substitute teacher, and as an assistant at Area 13 for many years.

Wilma and Glenn Leslie Johnson were united in marriage on February 8, 1941 in Lincoln, Nebraska. They made their home in the Glenwood, Iowa area and their marriage was blessed with six sons, Les, Steve, Lyle, Lynn, Keith, and Brian.

Wilma was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Glenwood. She enjoyed cooking, needlework, working puzzles and fishing. Wilma was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy.

Wilma and Glenn were married 73 years when Glenn passed away on March 9, 2014.

Wilma passed away on December 7, 2015 at the Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at the age of 96 years, 3 months, and 12 days. In addition to her beloved husband Glenn, she was also preceded in death by her parents; son Lynn Johnson; daughter-in-law Sandy Johnson; great granddaughter Katelynn Beck; and siblings, Lettie Thrift, William Bradley, Lillian Johnson, Lu King, Byron Bradley, and Thomas Bradley.

Wilma is survived by her sons, Les Johnson and wife Karen of Rockwell City, IA, Steven Johnson and wife Marla of Elkhorn, NE, Lyle Johnson and wife Diane of Tarkio, MO, Keith Johnson and wife DeAnna of Mineola, IA, and Brian Johnson and wife Marilyn of Las Vegas, NV; daughter-in-law Lauretta Johnson of Des Moines, IA; 19 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; extended relatives; and numerous neighbors and friends.
