Wilma Faye Vieman, one of eight children of Willie Franklin and Valeria Matilda (Baldozier) Fleming, was born on her parents' farm in Montgomery County near Henderson, Iowa, on December 5, 1924. Wilma attended Pleasant Valley Country School No. 3, and graduated from Wales High School in 1942. Following high school, Wilma attended Peru State College and earned her two year certificate in elementary education. She then attended Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis, Minnesota and graduated in 1947.
While at Northwestern, Wilma met Cleon Wayne Vieman. The couple was married in Chariton, Iowa on July 13, 1947. They made their home in Minneapolis while Wayne finished college and began his career as a minister for the Baptist Church. Wilma and Wayne lived in several Midwest communities, following the different churches Wayne served. Wilma always found an opening in an area elementary school where she could teach. During this time, Wilma returned to Peru State College part time and received her Master's in Elementary Education in 1964.
Wilma and Wayne returned to live on her parent's farm near Henderson in 1966, and Wilma taught at Nishna Valley Elementary School near Emerson, Iowa. In May of 1971, they moved to Treynor, Iowa. In 1972, Wilma began teaching at Temple Christian Academy in Omaha, Nebraska. She retired from teaching at Temple in June of 1989.
Wilma was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Omaha and enjoyed playing and teaching piano. She and Wayne had been married 43 years when Wayne died on September 6, 1990.
Wilma continued to live in Treynor until moving to Skyline Retirement Living in Omaha in 2001. She passed away at the Hospice House in Omaha on April 26, 2011, at the age of 86 years, 4 months, and 21 days. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rev. Wayne Vieman; sisters, Irene Clymer, Pearl Asell, and Ida Mae Fleming; and brothers, Henry Fleming, William Fleming, and Lynn Fleming.
